Recaping the wedding is really hard for me, tho I'm not really sure why. Perhaps because there are hundreds of pictures to go through, or because there are moments that I want to describe but don't have pictures to accompany them, or because I got burned out on wedding stuff and just needed the distance and now I'm so far out after the wedding that it seems silly. Whatever the reason, I am having trouble finding witty ways to share my wedding recaps with you.
In non-related news, Mr. Tal and I have officially relocated to Columbus and we are now living in a house, we have a new puppy, and I have been at my new job for over a month (umm, what?). You can read all about it over at Tales from the SalTals. I promise to get organized and start talking about the wedding soon.
Tune in again soon.

Guilty.
You know I read Weddingbee religiously and I fall in love with these bloggers and their weddings and then they get married and it's like poof, they disappear. I get so upset because want all the yummy details, I want to see how the entire wedding ended up turning out and I was always thought to myself, is it really that hard to do a recap? Now I'm looking a little sheepish because as you may have noticed, I'm totally guilty of the disappearing act as well. It's weird because prior to the wedding I could usually manage a post at least every other day, yet post-wedding I feel like I struggle to get one out every two weeks. It's been crazy, job hunting, speeding tickets, graduations, hospitilizations, just trying to enjoy married life and stuggling to figure out our future (we'll discuss that more over at Tales from the SalTals our newlywed blog which is in constuction right now). But I have some time now and I have my beautiful pictures from Jackie so I can share my wedding in detail with you.
Where did I last leave off? Oh, that's right it was coming up on Wedding Week. The Monday and Tuesday of wedding week (April 12th and 13th) were final project days. Printing programs, wrapping favors, and getting everything packed up and ready to haul over to our ceremony and reception sites. It was pure craziness.
Monday, Mr. Tal was working furiously to make our wedding canopy work while I was fighting with my compter and printer to make the ceremony programs come out just right. Let me tell you our apartment is not big, so Mr. Tal putting up a 5x7 canopy in our living room while I am printing and assembling programs in the same room would have been a little comical, but adding the freaked out dog and two cats it was downright hysterical. Let's just say the canopy fell a time or two and not just because of inadequet structural support and my programs (and the ribbons that tied them together) got attacked by some kitty paws. I would have found it funny if I wasn't so stressed out.
Tuesday, I spent most of the day assembling programs, packing and cleaning since we were going to have some guest come over that night. Mr. Tal spent the day at work pretending to work while really figuring out how to make the canopy work. That night he ended up buying bigger bases, paint and gravel to finish up that project. Meanwhile, Iasked demanded my friends Miss A and Mrs C to help put together our cookie bag favors while we watched American Idol. In return they got to eat any leftover cookies, so I think it was a win win.
Wednesday was my pamper day. Momma Sal had given me a card for my shower with Mr. Tal's family that requested that we get manicures and facials two days before the wedding. The facials didn't work out because I know that breakouts often happen in the week or so after the facials so we ended up getting mani/pedis and going out to a nice lunch together. It was heaven after all the stress of the last few weeks. It was really nice to spend some alone time with my mom before the big day. That night Mr. Tal and I packed up all of our wedding supplies (oh, how much bigger the apartment seemed) in his truck in preparation for the next day which was set-up and rehearsal.
I promise there won't be too big of a gap in between this post and the next.

The SalTal Wedding: The week before, 11 days before the wedding
I don't have any pictures yet but I figured it has been long enough that I can talk about the week before the wedding without breaking down in tears. (We are talking about April 5-9 and days 11-7 in the wedding countdown not the week of the wedding). This is pretty important as far as recaps go, because this week literally had me chewing on my hair rocking back and forth in the corner. During this time I really felt like the wedding wasn't going to happen. It's only recently that I have enough perspective to find the events a little humorous.
Day 11 in Wedding Countdown (aka April 5)
I remember this day crystal clear because I had a lot to do, I was going to run some errands and come home and finish some DIY projects before Mr. Tal got home from work, then we were going to print programs all night. It all started out well enough, I ran to Target and Michaels to get some last minute project items. Then I had to run to the bank to deposit some checks from our parents, this is where things started to go down hill.
What should have been a two minute errand turned into me standing with the teller for twenty minutes trying to figure out what to do. See these checks were our parents gifts/help for the wedding so they weren't small. There were multiple checks that totaled in the thousands, the smaller checks could be cashed and deposited but when I tried to deposit the larger checks they said that the funds would need to be held for ten days. Umm, yeah that won't work, see that's the day before my wedding, this is to help pay for the wedding, most payments are due this week. So the only solution that the teller (who was a doll, honestly) could come up with was for me to go directly to the bank that the checks were written from and get them cashed. Okay, I could do that for some but not all, the closest bank was about an hour away in my home town.
At this point I was just irritated my day and schedule were just interupted but I could handle it. I called my mom, who works for the bank we have our accounts with and she confirmed that cashing the check at the home bank was my best option. So I headed to Fremont (not my home town, trust me it's important) to get the check cashed and then I was going to see my mom at her branch so she could deposit everything for me. Usually I take the turnpike everywhere, it's faster and easier, but today I hadn't planned on a trip so I had no cash. I had to take the other main road to Fremont. Can you guess what happens next? On the road I needed to take there happens to be a couple small towns, in the middle of one I got a call from the bank, one of the smaller checks we had couldn't be run through for the amount it said because it wasn't made out correctly. Next thing I see is flashing lights in my rear view. Great. The next thing I know, the cop is telling me I was doing 38 in a 25 (I don't think so, but whateves), he takes my license and comes back 10 minutes later with my ticket. I had the decency to wait until he walked away to start sobbing.
I think it was the combination of events topped off with the amount of stress I was under that caused this breakdown, I literally sobbed for about 10 minutes before I pulled away from the side of the road. Eventually, I made my way to Fremont, got the check cashed and my mom deposited the total amount into our account then she took me to lunch for some comfort food.
Let me just say this was just a taste for the rest of the week. It was a bad week but it has a happy ending, I promise. I'll tell you more tomorrow.

Torn
(No, not the Natalie Imbruglia song. Do you remember that song?)
Our RSVPs have been rolling in since we sent our invites out a few weeks back. We sent them out a little earlier than called for to give folks a chance to book hotels and make the necessary travel arrangements if necessary. I must say that our guests are pretty creative with the Mad Lib style responses, some have been downright HI-larious (I may have to display the guests creativity at the reception...hmm, I foresee another project in the near future). I have also been a little suprised with the number of our guests who are attending. Not that I doubt that people want to be there for us on our big day, but we are having a Friday wedding and we accepted that some people might not be able to join us. However, out of the 24 response cards we have gotten back so far, only one has been a "no".
I got that first "no" response card yesterday and I felt really torn. I was at first very sad that the person was unable to make it, but then I was also a little happy because we need a few people to decline (like we counted on) to even out our numbers. Then I kind of felt like a jerk because I was happy. Ahh, the feelings involved when you are a bride, me thinks there are way too many emotions running through me at all hours.
Has anyone else felt torn when recieving a "no" response from friends or family?

Working my tail off
Quite literally. In Jaunuary Mr. Tal and I joined one of the gyms in the area. It's not just any gym, it is the mother of all gyms. Pool, Carido Movie Theater (showing a different movie every day), a plethora of classes, a seperate women's area, this gym has the works. It is pretty amazing and I have to say that it makes working out a lot easier. While I run on the elliptical I can watch TV or a movie, when I lift weights I can go to the women's area so I don't feel so self-conscious.
Getting in shape for the wedding was a goal of mine and I have been working my tail off, but I haven't lost a single pound. That's actually a good thing because I met with a trainer he told me to focus on getting in shape rather than losing weight but it is kind of frustrating because I don't know how to measure my progress. I mean my jeans are loose, I feel like I look better and feel better, I guess that is progress but I should really focus on how good working out makes me feel. Working out has become a real release for me, a way to escape for an hour. It makes me feel great when I do it and it relieves some of the wedding stress that has been mounting. I think I am going to go to the gym more with the wedding rolling closer, I think I will need it.
What do you do to relieve wedding stress?

Creating a calm space
I have a confession. I am a closet slob. Okay, maybe slob is a really harsh word, I am a little messy but (that's a big BUT) I am messy where no one can see it. What I mean is, when I have a guest over I clean everything he or she will see, such as the kitchen, living room, dining room, and bathroom. That leaves the bedroom, which quite honestly, I could care less if it is messy. However, I know that Mr. Tal cares. He can stand a little mess, but he has asked me time and time again to organize the bedroom. He has also asked me to get the wedding stuff (the mountains and moutains of stuff) organized. He also thinks that organizing everything will help to create a calmer space for us to come home to, which I something I actually kind of agree with.
So this week, I am spending my time and energy organizing the bedroom and the rest of the house. I really want to get this place in order before the wedding and honeymoon so that I have a calming space among the craziness. It will be nice when we come home at night not to worry so much about organizing and cleaning, we can just relax together. It's also going to be a nice little suprise when Mr. Tal comes home from his buisness trip later this week.
How do you escape the craziness of the wedding? Is your home a calming space?
